Wood Flooring for You

Wood furnishings will always remain a timeless staple for any home, and these days its easier than ever to find someone to install them! If you’re looking to get some new hardwood floorings, here are some concepts and terminologies to know going in.

Finished vs. Unfinished- The main difference between finished and unfinished hardwood flooring is time. Prefinished wood makes the installation job much faster, has no smell, and will allow the floor ready to be walked on immediately. Unfinished wood is good for if you’re looking for a custom design/stain to be applied, or to match certain colors in other areas. Unfinished is also good for kitchens because when you apply the finish it will seal the cracks between boards, preventing water from going through.

Solid vs. Engineered- Solid is complete wood while engineered is multiple layers glued onto each other. Solid wood can be refinished many times, making it able to last much longer than engineered wood which can only be refinished once or twice. If you have a basement, engineered would be your best option as humidity and moisture can warp solid wood. Solid wood is nailed onto a wood subfloor, meaning if your home is on a concrete substrate it will not work well. Engineered wood on the other hand is much more flexible as the wood is able to snap together from the sides, allowing it to be set anywhere.

With this knowledge, you’ll be ready to find the right wood flooring for you. At AJS, we are proud to serve the Tampa bay and beyond. If you’re interested in wood floor installments or moving, visit our website or give us a call today to schedule a free consultation!
