Amazing Architecture: Alabama

Sweet home Alabama, where the skies are so blue; Alabama is a state known for its deep roots in US history and its beautiful landscapes from beaches to mountains, but it doesn’t stop there! There are plenty of incredible manmade wonders throughout the state, in this edition of Amazing Architecture, we’ll guide you through some truly special ones.

Middle Bay Lighthouse- One of the strangest buildings so far, located in the middle of Mobile Bay, this lighthouse really sets the definition of house. In the middle of the water, this seemingly out of place house is a still active lighthouse, yet its cottage style construction and dock would make you think it’s where some sage would live!

Pickens County Courthouse- located in Carrollton, Alabama, this is a pretty ordinary courthouse until you look a bit closer. In the attic window there is a face staring out! This building is famous for being known as haunted, with the face being a ghost trapped inside. The legend goes that near the end of Civil War, a slave was chased into the building by a mob attempting to lynch him. When he reached the attic, he shouted if they killed him, he would haunt them forever. Now his face on the window is his spirit trapped inside. Scary stuff!

We hope you found this iteration of Amazing Architecture interesting and maybe visit these spots yourself!
