A Wrap on the 2020 Hurricane Season

As November comes to a close so does the hurricane season which runs from June to November. While it's easier to let a breath of relief in November, it is not unprecedented that storms still form in November. This year was no different with tropical storm Eta on the way. With the formation of this storm system, 2020 ties with 2005 with the most amount of storms within a one season at a grand total of 28. Most of the storms stayed a tropical storm although several strengthened to hurricane level winds. Louisiana and Central American seemed to take the brunt of the rains. Most notably, Hurricane Laura reached a category 4 level before making landfall in Louisiana causing the death of 27 people.

While this Hurricane season generated a number of storms, there were not as many mega storms as experts had predicted. Luckily, there wasn't another Irma or Michael and most of the storms were on the mild side. Florida, the state that usually suffers the most amount of storms due to location and size, escaped relatively unscathed. Most people only experienced slightly heavier down pours on some days but did not need to undergo the intensive hurricane preparations such as sandbags and boards. With this year was a relatively safer season, we hope next year will also be gentle on us.
